The YNPN-NYC Nonprofiteer of the Year Award was created to recognize an outstanding young professional who has made significant contributions to the nonprofit sector in the New York City area. The YNPN-NYC Advisory Board selected Maija Neville, MPH, who is the Director of Health Education at Settlement Health, a nonprofit federally qualified community health center dedicated to providing services to the underserved in East Harlem. As a young leader in the nonprofit sector, Maija has not only excelled in her position at Settlement Health but has also proven to be a strong advocate for the Harlem community and New York City at large. Maija's list of accomplishments in her current position at Settlement Health is impressive, but we were most inspired by the fact that Maija participates in the leadership of various community groups and encourages her staff to be involved at the same level. Maija also volunteers her time to lecture at various New York City universities on the HIV/AIDS epidemic and its impact on communities of color.
